Hazelwood welcomes govt plan

GDF SUEZ is “continuing to work with government” following the announcement last week mine operators will be made to carry out risk assessments and develop fire management plans by October this year.

The requirement has been made under variations to licences, signed by the new State Government, following recommendations by the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry.

A spokesperson for Hazelwood mine operator GDF SUEZ said the company welcomed the moves the government had made.

“We will work with them to get a clear understanding of what they’re after and cooperate to make sure the right procedures are in place,” the spokesperson said.
