Help nab thieves

Police have set up a special taskforce to target theft from motor vehicles, following a recent spate of incidents in Morwell.

The Volume Crime Taskforce will operate out of the Morwell Police Complex and is made up of members from the Crime Investigation Unit and Divisional Tasking Unit, with support from uniform members of the Proactive Policing Unit.

Taskforce head Detective Sergeant Rod Findlay said police would focus on areas where the thefts occurred with foot, covert and uniform patrols.

As part of the operation members of the Taskforce will be manning an information van tomorrow in the vicinity of the Morwell Bowling Club on Maryvale Crescent and Travers Street from 10am.

“We are interested in hearing from anyone who may have information in relation to the theft from motor vehicles in the area over the past few weeks,” Det Sgt Findlay said.

Anybody with information who cannot make it to the information van should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com

Police are once again asking the community to take precautions to prevent theft from motor vehicles, such as locking cars in driveways, as unlocked vehicles were targeted.
