Modest hemlines and monochrome dresses with bright pops of colour are set to take centre stage at Traralgon’s Ladies Day this weekend, with feminine elegance the look of the season.
Fashions on the Field judge Elle James said she would be on the lookout for women appropriately dressed for the weather, who had also considered the finer details.
“I will be looking at those who have matched their millinery to their dresses, and really tied their whole outfit together,” Ms James said.
She said while Derby Day was traditionally a black and white dress code, incorporating bright, bold colours was a popular trend this racing season.
“At (Melbourne’s) spring (fashion) launch they were still pairing monochrome tones but accentuating it with a bold nail polish colour and a stained lip,” Ms James said.
She said last year’s trend of cut-out silhouettes was still popular but advised participants to keep their hemlines modest, hitting just above the knee.
“Minimal makeup highlighting their natural features and appropriate outfits that complement the individual’s body and style (will favour well in the competition),” Ms James said.
Fashions on the Field will be held during Ladies Day at Latrobe Valley Racing Club on Saturday.
Those interested in competing in the event can register at the booth on the day by 2pm.
Categories are open for women, diamond on the field, men and couples.
