A symbol of honour

A touching tribute to those who are fighting cancer or have died due to the disease took place on Friday morning in the courtyard of a Morwell primary school.

Staff and students of St Vincent de Paul Primary School came together to raise money for cancer research by holding their own Biggest Morning Tea.

In the lead up to the event, students bought a coloured badge with the name of someone they know who has been touched by the disease – a symbol of honour they’ll continue to wear this week.

A spokesperson said the school community had been particularly touched by cancer in recent years.

“With the sudden passing of a teacher, a parent and family members and staff who have fought or who are fighting the disease,” the spokesperson said.

“It has touched our close knit community on a very personal level.”

All proceeds of the day went to cancer research.
