Traralgon jobseeker Deborah Peatey doesn’t want “government handouts”, she simply wants to pay her way.
The 43 year-old said she had been looking for work since November, following a string of medical misdiagnoses that saw her lose her job.
Eight months of job hunting later and Deborah has taken to the side of the Princes Highway in a last-ditch attempt to secure work.
She’s hungry, cold and fed up with borrowing money to pay the bills.
The former cleaner, who said she also had experience in massage therapy, childcare and nursery work, has stationed herself on the side of the road opposite Latrobe Regional Hospital, with a sign looking for work.
Braving the icy winter chill, Deborah is determined to stay put until she finds a job.
“I’m hoping to catch someone’s eye. I don’t think anyone believed I was going to do this but I need work,” she said on Monday.
“Any work, if it’s going to pay my bills I will take it.”
Anyone with work available can contact Deborah on 0439 404 440.
