Valley residents hooked up to NBN

More than 3700 Latrobe Valley homes and businesses are now able to connect to the National Broadband Network.

Moe, Yallourn and Trafalgar, along with surrounding towns Parkers Corner and Tanjil South, are eligible to connect to the NBN network, following a launch of Telstra services.

Telstra area general manager Loretta Willaton said the launch of the NBN network around these areas would give locals the opportunity to use a variety of new and emerging technologies made possible by fast and reliable broadband.

“The introduction of NBN network technology in the region marks the beginning of a new brilliantly connected era for locals,” Ms Willaton said.

Country Fire Authority chief officer Joe Buffone announced his resignation on Thursday morning, amid ongoing enterprise bargaining agreement negotiations.

In a statement, Mr Buffone said he was “now in circumstances where my ability to effectively carry out my role is compromised by an industrial agreement”.

“In addition, it impedes my vision for CFA as a modern, contemporary and inclusive emergency service,” he said.

Mr Buffone’s resignation follows the sacking of the former CFA board and the resignations of former emergency services minister Jane Garrett and CFA chief executive Lucinda Nolan.

The CFA board has announced Steve Warrington as interim chief officer.
