Morwell Central opens its doors

After 10 years the wait is finally over, with Morwell Central Primary School to open to the public.

As part of the decade-long $10.45 million development, Tobruk Street, Commercial Road and Morwell primary schools will amalgamate at the new McDonald Street site. opening for term one next year.

Before school is in session, the general public is invited to inspect the new precinct.

Today, principal Justine Smyth and other staff members will take parents and the community on a guided tour of the school.

Attendees will learn about the school’s operation and have the opportunity to ask questions, before attending a community barbecue.

The guided tours will run every 10 to 15 minutes between 11.30am to 1pm from the school’s performing arts centre.

Ms Smyth said more tours would be hosted once a certificate of occupancy was received.

The school will also host a prep information session tonight from 6pm to 7.30pm at its performing arts centre.

From next year students will learn in an open-plan classroom environment situated within four central learning hubs at the school.

Each hub will have access to an outdoor learning courtyard to provide a range of indoor/outdoor learning opportunities.

The site also features a $4 million PAC, indoor cubby house, purpose-built canteen, upgraded gymnasium and staff and visitor car parking.
