A night by candlelight

Christmas songs will fill Traralgon’s Sound Shell during the annual Carols by Candlelight.

Community members will gather at Victory Park on Sunday night to celebrate the festive season with a barbecue and evening of entertainment.

Hosted by the Traralgon Lions Club, the annual event of more than 40 years will kick off with a sausage sizzle at 5pm, followed by a children’s Christmas stage show at 7pm.

Koko the Clown, Prime Possum and the man of the night, Santa Claus are scheduled to make appearances between 7pm and 8pm.

Carols will officially kick off at 8pm, led by the City of Traralgon Band, who will be joined by the Combined Carols Choir, Lions Junior Carols Choir and a string of local artists.

A spectacular fireworks display will conclude the evening at 10pm.

Lion Martin Taylor expected about 5000 people to attend the night and share in the festive spirit.

The event is strictly drug, alcohol and smoking free.

All are welcome; take your own picnic rugs, chairs and blankets.
