The Member for Morwell has stepped down from his roles in the Shadow Cabinet in recognition of the looming closure of Hazelwood.
Russell Northe has resigned as the Shadow Minister for Liquor and Gaming Regulation and Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs – positions he has held for the past two years.
Mr Northe said the roles were a great responsibility, but regularly took him out of his electorate.
“This is time, I believe, that would be better spent helping workers affected by the Hazelwood power station’s closure and working with industry and stakeholders to ensure we secure a positive future for the people who want to live and work in the Latrobe Valley,” he said.
