Moe library remains closed

The Moe library remains closed after a burst water pipe forced it to shut its doors on Monday, but limited service will be restored from Friday.

The closure was prompted by the discovery of water in the library’s underfloor space and lift well.

Electrical services are located under the floor meaning the water in the underfloor space posed an occupational health and safety issue.

Latrobe City officers have been working to dry out the area but mayor Kellie O’Callaghan said the facility would not be restored to full service this week.

“While we had anticipated that the library would re-open this week, we have since discovered mould in some areas which suggests this matter is more complex than initially thought,” Cr O’Callaghan said.

“We will reassess on Monday and advise the community accordingly.”

Meeting room bookings at the site will still be honoured and community members will be able to make eftpos payments and access a ‘pop-up’ library in the library foyer from Friday.
