The fight to halt the proposed rezoning of the former Hill End Primary School will continue with a delegation meeting with State Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath.
The meeting, to be held at 2pm on Wednesday, 2 August at the former Hill End Primary School site, is open to the public.
This comes after the Department of Education and Training declared the site to be surplus to requirement and the Department of Treasury and Finance announced it intended to sell the land.
Since then, HECI has been campaigning to stop the sale through a number of community meetings and by making a submission to the Government Land Standing Advisory Committee.
Hill End Community Inc. president Chris Williams encouraged community members to attend the meeting to show their support for keeping the site available for community use.
“The meeting is to show them what we’re fighting for and convince them that there is nothing else around and there is lots of community support for it,” she said.
“There has been lots of letter writing to politicians by HECI members.”
Ms Williams said HECI members would also meet with State Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing on Thursday at her Morwell office for an additional delegation meeting.
Both sides of state politics have united to call for a halt to the rezoning of the former Hill End Primary School, with Upper House Labor MP Harriet Shing and Lower House Liberal MP Gary Blackwood previously speaking against the proposal in parliament.
