Donations makes life bearable

It is said that every child should have a teddy bear to cuddle, something the Morwell Lions Club firmly believes in.

The club donated about 20 bears to the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency in Morwell.

The bears were handmade by inmates of Fulham Prison and passed onto the club for distribution which decided VACA was a worthy recipient for the good it does in the community.

Morwell Lions Club member Mal Sparks said the club wanted to give the bears to an organisation that helped children in the Latrobe Valley.

“We like to look after children around the town, that is what we want to do, it is our aim,” he said.

“It is something they can relate to, or see as a friend, particularly children that are facing trauma, they can take it to bed and it can be their friend,” he said.

Family violence program team leader Donna Hood said the bears would help children facing difficult circumstances.

“They will be used as comfort toys for [children] fleeing situations of family violence,” she said.
