Federation Training will be able to offer new and expanded courses that local industries have highlighted as needed in the region, following a $1.96 million state government funding boost.
Training and Skills Minister Gayle Tierney was in Morwell on Thursday to announce the funding which she said would help locals secure “real jobs in Gippsland”.
The courses to be provided under the funding were developed in collaboration with industry, employer and other key stakeholders across the horticulture, environmental, health and infrastructure sectors.
“These are courses that we have been told by local industry that are needed,” Ms Tierney said.
“So we are very, very pleased to be able to assist local industry to be able to have these local courses so that young people here in this region have the opportunity to take on courses that lead to real jobs in Gippsland.”
Courses include a Certificate III in Production Horticulture and Certificate III in Horticulture, as well as Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management, which includes Indigenous environmental management strategies.
“There will be horticulture [courses], a number of health courses, and that of course is related to the demand that is driven as a result of the expansion of the Latrobe Regional Hospital,” Ms Tierney said.
“There is also conservation and land management, and of course we know that there are a number of projects that are important in that area in this region, and of course construction and building, because we know that there are a number of major infrastructure projects about to be underway and are underway in this region.”
The TAFE will also offer additional places in a variety of courses, including Certificate IV in Mental Health, Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance, Certificate III in Health Services Assistance and the Diploma of Building and Construction.
