Latrobe Valley Authority chief executive Karen Cain has said the LVA was aware of Latrobe City Council’s application to the federal government for an additional $10 million for the much-anticipated Traralgon pool.
Council made the application to the federal government’s Regional Growth fund, on top of the state government’s $46 million contribution, to go towards geothermal infrastructure and other additional works at the facility.
The Express understands the fund is oversubscribed and Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing previously expressed concerns the application would delay the delivery of the pool which she said the community had been waiting too long for.
However, Ms Cain said she had no concerns the application would delay the construction and opening of the facility and said the LVA had been made aware of the application before it was lodged.
“We have worked really, really closely with Latrobe City council through the control group that we have for all the sporting initiatives,” she said.
“Latrobe City is a member of that group and all of the planning has been done in a coordinated way.
“We commend council for applying for that funding and, if that funding comes off, it will be an additional design element for this site, so we are very encouraging [of the application].”
Latrobe City mayor Darrell White said council was not yet aware whether the application to the Regional Growth Fund was successful.
