THE LATROBE Valley District Cricket League has tonight voted to cancel this weekend’s grand finals.
The LVDCL board’s decision comes following advice from Cricket Australia earlier today in response to the coronavirus crisis.
“Decisions like this do not come lightly and is not the way we wanted to finish what has been a close and exciting LVDCL season across all grades,” the league said in a statement posted on their Facebook page.
“Your tolerance and understanding in this matter is much appreciated.”
Cricket Australia strongly recommended all amateur cricket played within the community should cease including community cricket and premier cricket.
“While cricket is a relatively safe and non-contact sport there are considerable measures that need to be in place to adhere to expert advice around reducing the risk of spreading the virus,” CA said in a statement.
“We focused specifically on minimising the risk and impact on the cricket communities that we lead and serve, as well as their families.
“While many competitions are coming to an end, we are mindful that some competitions are only just commencing however the recommendation applies to all competitions and training.”
With the grand finals abandoned under LVDCL by-law 25.2, premiers were declared in all grades.
