MORWELL Police Officers have raised more than $8300 for this year’s Movember fundraiser.

A total of 30 Morwell Police Officers have banded together to raise funds for the cause, which aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 per cent, including suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Movember has been operating since 2003, and as part of fundraising efforts, has participants grow a moustache throughout the month of November.

The group are one of 26 Victoria Police teams competing in the Movember Victoria Police Challenge.

The Morwell team has called themselves the More Well Mo Bro’s, and at last count were sitting in first place on the Victoria Police teams’ leader board.

Both Uniform Police and Detectives from the Morwell Police complex are involved in the fundraiser.

The team in Victoria Police that raises the largest amount of money for the cause is awarded a shield at the end of the challenge, with the More Well Mo Bro’s setting their sights on this shield.

“Whilst our aim is to raise awareness for men’s health issues and seek donations towards this, we also hope to win the Challenge and bring the shield to Morwell,” Sergeant Martin Tullett told The Express.

To garner more attention around the fundraiser and raise awareness for the cause, the team have been posting photographs and creating humorous videos, including re-enactments of film scenes such as Braveheart and Gladiator, all of which are posted on their Movember page.

Members of Morwell Police Station and the wider community have backed the team, posting messages of support online.

Sgt Tullett, said the group wishes to thank “those who have already shown overwhelming support and donations”.
