LATROBE City Council has received an $110,000 funding boost from the state government to build a new toilet at Apex Park, Moe.
The Changing Places accessible toilet will be situated close by the All Abilities Play Space in
the park, and will be a standalone facility.
Changing Places provides toilet facilities for those who are unable to use standard bathrooms and include things such as height adjustable adult-size change tables, constant charging ceiling track hoist systems and centrally located peninsula toilets.
Currently there are 195 Changing Places accessible toilets across Australia – 90 of these
are in Victoria.
The toilet in Moe will be the third of its kind in Latrobe City, with existing facilities in at Traralgon Library and Service Centre and the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre.
Latrobe City Council will contribute $100,000 to deliver the project in the next financial year, as mpart of the state government’s Changing Places Program.
Latrobe City Mayor Kellie O’Callaghan said she is looking forward to the project’s completion.
“Latrobe City Council is committed to making our community facilities and spaces accessible to the whole community. This project will further enhance access to this much-loved park and make it a destination for local families and visitors to the region,” Cr O’Callaghan said.
“We would like to acknowledge the support from the Victorian government for this important facility upgrade and we look forward to seeing it completed.”
In 2021, the state government provided $2.5 million to expand the Changing Places
initiative.
