ARC Yinnar is turning 40 in 2022, and they are gearing up for an exciting year of celebration.

In 2022, Arc Yinnar will host new creative workshops including ‘Art to Business’, a course
run by artists and business professionals.

The course will have professionals help participants who are wanting to set up their own
art business, and will be held on Zoom.

Arc Yinnar chair Yvette Atkins said the course will be a great opportunity for artists looking to launch a business.

“A series of different courses are offered throughout the year, and they are to assist people
with developing skills that will either help them move into tertiary study or into the workforce,” she said.

“Art to Business is for practicing artists… and it’s an intensive course that’s going to situate them so that they are actually able to run their own businesses.”

Participating artists will learn about setting up an ABN, tax requirements, setting up social media and other useful skills.

Old favourites will also return this year, including classes like Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, and Blacksmithing.

One of 2021’s most popular classes, Ceramics, will continue this year.

The history of Arc Yinnar has been very much based in print making and ceramics. The ceramics room, in its heyday, was very much well attended,” Ms Atkins said.

“We’ve recently refurbished the ceramics room.”

Other workshops that may appear this year are in Silversmithing, Silver Clay and Ceramic
Jewellery making.

“Last year certainly was different. We were able to continue to deliver our workshops and classes. They were disrupted quite often and some of them had to be completely cancelled because too much time had elapsed,” Ms Atkins said.

“During 2021 we were completing a redevelopment of the building.

“But all in all, we do think we delivered a pretty successful program considering the last two years.”

Visual art will not be the only thing appearing at Arc Yinnar in 2022. ‘The Switchroom’ will recommence with monthly open stage events and other performances throughout the year.
Ms Atkins said the Switchroom will be used to house open mic events, plays, performances and presentations, with audiences as density limits allow.

Currently, Arc Yinnar has The Summer Show on in their gallery, which continues until February 20.

Following the current show, the Women’s Show will appear, beginning February 26, 2022.

Later this year, Arc will hold celebratory events in honour of its 40th birthday.
