Not This Time!

VANDALS were given the blame on a radio news bulletin the other night for damaging and stealing part of the General Savige memorial in Morwell’s Highway Gardens. Morwell Apexian, Bob Pelchen, actually found the newly unveiled sundial was terribly loose over a month ago and did the right thing by taking it to the Shire Office, before the vandals moved in. It seems it wasn’t until the Anzac commemorations that RSL members noticed the sundial was missing, and the scream went up.

Shires bid for pay TV

NATIONAL pay tv company CETV could be weeks away from setting up permanently somewhere in Gippsland. The company’s home could be somewhere in the Latrobe Valley, although the battle is now on between the neighbouring Shires of Latrobe and Baw Baw to lure the company and provide full-time office space. Although Latrobe has not been ‘formally approached”, its chief executive officer, John Mitchell admitted such a development would be a “good pick up for additional employment opportunities”. A representative from CETV was in Traralgon on Friday, looking at office space when contacted by The Express, and said the company solely operated in rural areas.

Traralgon student speaks at

Anzac lunch

ST Paul’s Anglican grammar student Lily Van Berkel recently spoke at the Victorian Anzac lunch hosted by Premier Daniel Andrews. She was a student guest speaker for the Premier’s Spirit of Anzac competition. One of 44 regional finalists, chosen from more than 600 entries in the competition last year and as a result, attended a five-day study tour of Canberra. Other speakers at the lunch included the head of the RSL, as well as prolific journalist Peter FitzSimons.
