Going, going, gone

THE original Yallourn Power Production Centre, built in 1923, was sold on Friday for $42,000. The building was auctioned by Jolly Real Estate and purchased by a couple from Western Australia, Rob and Melanie Reed. The Reeds moved to the Valley several weeks ago. Speaking with The Express after the auction, Mr Reed said he was unsure of what they would do with the building. He did not rule out demolition. “Even if we pulled the building down we would not lose out on the price”, he added. The massive building contains conference and dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, as well as continuous office space. It once housed more than 300 staff in it’s peak.

$2m damage bill

Latrobe Regional Hospital is facing a damage bill between $2 and $3 million after fire engulfed consulting suites on Thursday. Chief executive Peter Craighead said the hospital had been able to deliver services as usual, with appointments kept on Friday. “We’ve managed for the next week to fit all the consultants into consulting rooms three and four, and we’re converting an area into temporary office space for paediatricians”, Mr Craighead said. The fire took hold in consulting suites eight to 11, which house the lung function clinic, some surgeons and hospital support staff.
