LV supports protest
The Latrobe Valley may come to a standstill next week. The powerful Gippsland Trades and Labour Council this week reaffirmed its decision to hold a 24-hour strike to oppose the federal government’s attempts to cripple Medibank, with the support of the Labor Party branches. A Traralgon public meeting of 60 people on Monday heard the Shadow Minister for Health speak at length on Medibank. Two motions to support the strike were made by the Victoria Trades Hall Council, opposing the Fraser government’s efforts to “castrate” Medibank, asking the Latrobe Valley to act as a nucleus to ensure that a public protest rally is held.

Mobile coverage for Gormandale
THE Gormandale community now has mobile coverage with the launch of a mobile base station. The mobile base station is the third in Gippsland to be switched on under the Black Spot Program, and was jointly funded by Telstra and the federal and state governments – featuring the latest GX technology. Prior to the program, Gormandale had no mobile coverage, with many residents providing feedback that the ability to seamlessly use a mobile in and around town has made a great difference to locals and residents.
