THE Australian Football League community has banded together in a bid to raise funds for injured Leongatha footballer Beau Vernon.
The Richmond Football Club will host an auction and fundraising dinner tomorrow, with the proceeds going towards Vernon’s medical bills which have ballooned to more than $800,000.
Vernon was left a quadriplegic after following an on-field collision during a football match against Wonthaggi in June.
Nick Riewoldt, Lenny Hayes and the St Kilda Football Club will attend the auction and fundraising dinner, which will be hosted by Richmond legends Nathan Brown and Matthew Richardson.
St Kilda recently joined the 23 year old’s cause after the club’s development coach Paul Hudson, who has coached Vernon in the past, attended a fundraiser in San Remo that raised approximately $150,000.
