T’gon creeping on Drouin

SATURDAY’S West Gippsland Bowls pennant saw some big individual wins for Traralgon as they continue to nip at the heels of competition leader Drouin.

In division one Traralgon hosted Morwell Club and won a tight game by eight shots 95/87.

Traralgon’s winners were James Scullin who beat Michael Yacoub 25/19 and Phil Mustoe who thumped Ian Kirkup 35/14.

The Club’s winners were Matt Ferrari who dealt Ross Sizeland a heavy 28/15 defeat and Ian Hilsley who won 26/20 over Glenn Scott.

Drouin continued its winning run with a solid 86/67 win over Moe, Yallourn showed Neerim no mercy 110/63 and Returned and Services League continued its good form beating Trafalgar 97/79.

After five rounds the top four are Drouin, Traralgon, Yallourn and RSL with Moe one point adrift.

Next week Traralgon hosts across town rivals RSL in the game of the day.

Morwell Club is home to Moe, Drouin is home to Neerim and Yallourn hosts Trafalgar.

Division two

Division two saw Traralgon travel to Garfield and return empty handed after losing 97/87 in a keenly contested match.

Morwell got back on the winners’ list by beating Moe 105/82 in a solid display, Warragul almost doubled Yinnar’s score in a thumping 119/64 win and Longwarry staged a great battle with Yallourn before winning 90/88.

After five rounds Warragul, Morwell, Longwarry and Garfield make up the top four with Yallourn and Traralgon next in line.

Division three

Division three saw Drouin beat Yallourn North in a canter 118/75, Traralgon (4) won by several lengths over Thorpdale 109/77, Warragul easily accounted for Yallourn 98/67 and RSL downed Traralgon (3) 100/87.

After five rounds Warragul, Drouin, RSL and Traralgon(4) lead the way with Yallourn fifth.

Division four

In division four Warragul buried Yarragon 112/65, Morwell Club did likewise to Drouin 116/70, Neerim redeemed itself 98/82 over Boolarra and Trafalgar got home 88/84.

After five rounds Trafalgar lead from Morwell, Boolarra and Morwell Club with Warragul just behind in fifth place.

Division five

In division five Longwarry downed Traralgon 70/62, RSL beat Morwell 69/58, Garfield won easily against Trafalgar Park 75/51 and Moe got the points against Trafalgar 81/58.

After five rounds Moe is on top with Morwell second.

Garfield and Traralgon hold the next two places narrowly from RSL.

Division six

In division six Warragul (4) beat Yinnar 54/43, Yallourn won 60/40 against Warragul (5), Garfield made it three out of three for the club with a 50/40 win over Morwell, Yallourn North won on forfeit from Boolarra and Traralgon won 53/41 against RSL.

Yallourn North, Warragul, Yinnar and Garfield make up the top four and Yallourn is just one point behind them in fifth place.
