Meet the new pack

The Newborough Football Netball Club has found replacements for two of its three premiership coaches and announced the coaching group for 2013 at a meet the coaches night recently.

President Steve Hall said the Bulldogs were looking to back up the success achieved in 2012, which meant the search was on for replacements who could continue the club’s effective emphasis on teaching.

Alan Chandler has been reappointed as senior coach and Adam Kennedy will again be his assistant.

In the reserves Bradd Taylor will take over from the retired 2012 premiership coach Michael Jonkers.

“Bradd, a member of last year’s reserves premiership side, has been a senior player with the club for the past 10 years and is looking at introducing an instructive approach with his coaching,” Mr Hall said.

“To ensure its future, the club is taking the step of renaming its reserves the ‘Development Squad’, and with this Bradd will enlist the services of past players and club stalwarts to assist with his program.

“With up to 12 players moving from the under 18s competition and talented younger players remaining from last season, his aim is to further develop these players into future senior team members.”

This year’s thirds premiership coaches Darryl Disisto and Robert Wilson will again act as joint coaches for 2013.

Mr Hall said the club had to move quickly to find a suitable a replacement to follow the success of fourths premiership coach Anthony Magnuson, who was moving to Melbourne for work commitments. “We have appointed Luke Drummond to the position… Luke is a physical education teacher at Catholic College Sale and is very much looking forward to coaching our juniors next year. These appointments continue the club’s strong focus on junior development, ensuring the young players at the club will receive the best possible opportunity to be mentored and guided during their junior years.”

All players, new and existing, are invited to join in with training prior to Christmas on Tuesday and Friday nights at Northern Reserve, Newborough.

Following the holidays, training will change to Tuesdays and Thursdays commencing on 15 January.
