THE Eastern Districts Urban Firefighting competition, scheduled for this weekend at Maryvale Reserve, has been cancelled due to the ongoing Gippsland bushfires.
The committee made the difficult decision to cancel the event to free front line Country Fire Authority volunteers and local accommodation for the firefighting effort required by the Aberfeldy fire.
This marks just the third cancellation of the event due to bushfires since World War II.
The junior championships will still go ahead as planned, on Saturday, 2 February, at Traralgon.
