Franklin storms home

BRETT Franklin outpaced and outlasted a field of about 60 riders at the Gippsland Mountain Bike Club Foster enduro race late last month.

The heat did not affect the early pace in the three-hour race, with many riders going under the 20 minute per lap mark for the 6.2 kilometre course.

In a dominant display, Franklin continued to churn out fast times and won by just over a lap from Gippsland mountain bike stalwart Brian Wallace, with David Croxford close behind in third place.

In the women’s category, Britta Weller showed her rivals a clean set of spokes to win from Kirstin Curtis with Melanie Mitchell in third place.

The teams event was also one way traffic with Adam and Glen Wiggins winning comfortably.

The pair completed the most number of laps on the day to win from the team of Ash Webster and Shem Hawking and Samuel and Geoff Frankland.

The juniors category was taken out by Troy Taylor who, in a great effort, had only five solo riders ahead of him at the finish.

In second place behind Troy was Malte Adebahr with Jack Hyland finishing in third.

The club also held a half hour long children’s race for six to 12 year-olds on select portions of the track.

The next event to be held is a point to point race at Glengarry on 28 April.
