SALE Rangers travelled to Churchill to take on the Braves in round three of GDF SUEZ Loy Yang B Latrobe Valley Baseball at the weekend.
A grade started with a surge of runs in the first innings as the Rangers brought three across home plate.
The Braves immediately hit back with three runs of their own to level scores.
Precision pitching from Braves’ Brad Warton held the Rangers to two additional runs for the remainder of the game and while Sale pitcher Will Hector fought all game, a huge home run from Mat Prior opened the flood gates for the Braves to run out winners 15-5.
The Traralgon and Moe tussle was a tight affair with two runs separating the sides after six innings.
Moe got off to a flier scoring four runs in the first and another in the third.
Traralgon opened its scoring in the third with four and the game hung in the balance until the seventh when Traralgon put on an impressive 10 runs to steal victory 19-7.
B grade was played along similar lines with Braves’ Cam Cooen restricting the Rangers to three runs, and the Braves’ batters scored consistently. A pitching change in the last innings saw the Rangers post three runs but it was too little too late and the Braves won 14-6.
Rangers’ pitching was dominant in the under 16 game and allowed the Braves to score just two runs.
The Sale batters took advantage of an inexperienced Churchill side to score regularly and win 11-2.
