GYMNASTICS
ENERGETIC Gymnastics Club will send two junior teams to the State Pennant Finals this weekend in Donvale.
The team of 10 will contest level one and three competitions against the best in the state, after achieving qualification over the past two months.
The Traralgon club’s level one team illustrated its strength this month with victory at the State Pennant Qualifiers in Mount Waverley, and head coach Elise Edgar is optimistic about its chances in Melbourne.
“We have two teams preparing for the State Pennant Finals that have the support of our entire junior team program. Our focus will be to hit clean routines on every apparatus,” Edgar said.
After winning the all round team title in 2012, the club has expanded its junior program to 26 gymnasts who participated in the competitive season.
Last month the club took out a number of apparatus and all around awards at the MLC Classic, and earned two State Pennant wildcards in the level one and level three divisions at Ulinga Gymnastics’ wildcard event in Traralgon.
Edgar said she was thrilled with the growth of the club since its 2012 launch.
“I am really impressed with all gymnasts and our coaching team,” she said.
“Not only do our gymnasts stand out on the competition floor for their clean execution and quality technique but we have strong team morale.
“I think it’s our positive outlook and high levels of enthusiasm that has helped our teams perform at their best throughout the season.”
The State Pennant Finals event will be held in Donvale on Saturday and Sunday.
