SMALL-SIDED GAMES
MELBOURNE Heart goalkeeper Clint Bolton was the star attraction at Monash Reserve, Newborough on Saturday, when 250 young soccer players converged for a Gippsland Soccer League ‘mega’ gala day of small-sided football.
Bolton, along with Melbourne Victory women’s player Louisa Bisby, entertained and indulged the juniors in a range of activities throughout a “fantastic” soccer carnival.
“He was giving some goal keeping advice and there was a couple of penalty shoot-outs with the kids where he was in goals,” GSL manager Paul Crowe said.
“It was just fantastic, it really worked well. We just spread him out over the course of the day and took him around to all the different teams when they were having their breaks and it worked perfectly. They loved that and all the parents loved it.
“The Monash Soccer Club did an excellent job in facilitating… the kids had an absolute ball.”
The gala day focused on small-sided games for under seven and nine age groups, while Monash under 11 and 14 girls were also involved.
All GSL central clubs were represented on the day.
