NETBALL
STATE LEAGUE
THERE were no surprises in round three of the Eastern Region State League Netball played at Latrobe City Leisure Churchill on Friday night, as Alberton continued on its path of destruction.
A youthful Mid Gippsland White gave it their best shot against a disciplined Alberton in the open division, but could not keep up and succumbed 66-29.
The reigning premier never looked like easing off despite holding a hefty lead for most of the contest.
Both Alberton defenders were named best on court along with goal shooter Hannah Flanders.
Mid Gippsland Green brought Saskia Heathcote in to side to cover the absence of state player Ramayer Gourley for its match against North Gippsland.
Still to register a win, North Gippsland had no answers and went down convincingly 62-33.
The defensive combination of Louisa Pratt and Courtney Stevens, along with Jess Hilliar, caused headaches for North’s defenders as Green skipped away.
In the 17 and under division Alberton continued on its winning way, accounting for Mid Gippsland 52-21.
Alberton was led by Shannon Dankert, Britt Roffey and Britt Thomas.
North Gippsland made it a hat trick of victories against East Gippsland with a 33-16 win and Gippsland was too strong for Sale, 39-18.
Alberton will go in to round four confident against Mid Gippsland Green in the open division grand final replay, Mid Gippsland White will welcome the bye and Morwell Indoor should add to its winning tally against North Gippsland.
North Gippsland will have a tough match against Gippsland in the 17 and under game of the round, Alberton should cruise to victory against East Gippsland and Sale will be out to keep Mid Gippsland winless.
Games are played Fridays from 7.15pm at Latrobe Leisure Churchill.
