LATROBE City Energy opened its account for season 2014 with a commanding 23 point win over Camberwell Dragons at home on Saturday night.

Energy overcame a lacklustre first quarter, in which it trailed 21-15 at the break, with a dominant 20-3 second term to lead by 11 at the half.

Camberwell pegged it back to eight at the final change, but Energy piled on 36 points in the last quarter to emerge 85-62 victors.

Vashon Weaver led the way with 17 point, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, while American import Ashton Pitts and Jordan Canovan racked up 16 points apiece.

Jarryd Moss played 20 minutes for a return of 15 points as coach Les Stothard went through 12 troops on the night.

Energy made Camberwell pay from the line, hitting 22 of 32 free throws to the Dragons’ 11 of 18.

Canovan, Pitts, Moss and Michael Bridgman were all flawless with their frees.

The win moved Energy into fourth on the Watson ladder and fifth overall.
