Powering ahead

FOOTBALL

GIPPSLAND Power showed its impressive depth with a third-place division one finish at the under 15 V/Line Cup last week.

The Power missed out on the first place playoff by 0.04 per cent, after a win over eventual finalist Peninsula Stingrays by 28 points and a narrow six-point loss to Goulburn Murray in the pool rounds.

Ovens and Murray was no match for the Power in the third and fourth playoff, as Aidan Quigley kicked two goals in a 6.12 (48) to 3.4 (22) victory.

The Power’s Austin Hodge led all goal kickers for the tournament with nine majors.

A victory over the David Rodan squad saw Power’s division two team finish fifth.
