CROSS conference leader Warrnambool Seahawks toppled Latrobe City Energy from the top of the BigV division one men’s ladder on Saturday night at The ARC Sports Stadium.
The Terrill conference top dog overcame its Watson counterpart, Energy, 100-91 in a high scoring contest which saw the visitor tumble to third on the overall standings.
Warrnambool made the early running to win the opening two quarters by a combined 12 points.
Energy hit back in the second half, winning the third term 24-21, but a 31-31 final quarter saw the Seahawks across the line.
United States import Ashton Pitts again fouled out, though he lasted 34 minutes compared to 10 last week.
His impact was substantial, scoring 19 points to go with nine rebounds, but it was again Jordan Canovan who came up with the big numbers.
Canovan posted a game high 26 points and made six assists to lead the Energy charge.
Tall forward Steve Bonacci played an important role, putting up 13 points and as many rebounds, and found his way to the line with regularity.
The result pushed Energy to equal second with the Seahawks in the overall standings, though third on differential.
Both sides are one win off top side Southern Peninsula and both have a game in hand.
The Latrobe City women enjoyed the bye.
