Central Gippsland eyes another upset

After a great victory against Sale Maffra in round one of the Gippsland Cricket League, Central Gippsland will host Bairnsdale at Mirboo North on Sunday.

Veteran Anthony Bloomfield starred with the bat and if he lines up again could be the catalyst for another upset.

Skipper Rhys Holdsworth and gun bat Andrew Philip will bolster the line up considerably and Tim Dowe and Chris Johnson will be hoping to continue their good form with the ball.

Bairnsdale started the GCL season with a strong win over Leongatha.

Their batting line up of Ray Stevens, Rohan Blanford, Hayden Erfurth and Luke Schumann is a daunting prospect for any opponent.

Nick Davies, Dion Holden and experienced captain Marcus Latham will head up the Bairnsdale attack as the side warms up for another shot at finals.

Traralgon v Sale-Maffra

Traralgon will meet Sale Maffra at Stoddart Park Traralgon in an important clash.

After a surprise loss to Central Gippsland a win is an absolute must for Sale-Maffra if it is to defend the title.

Sale-Maffra boasts a strong batting line up including Josh Rurahwe, Brett Lanigan and Rohan Diamond.

All-rounders Brad Scott, Jack Tatterson and Taylor Tatterson will all have important roles to play.

Traralgon had a strong win over Warragul in round one on the back of fine bowling from Ben Julin, Todd Mann, skipper Michael Warne and Matt Golding.

Jordan Gilmore is in good early season form and he will be looking for support from former Warragul player Daniel Hamilton and Sam Marks.

This will be a keenly contested encounter on what is usually good a batting track at Stoddart Park.

Leongatha v Warragul

First round losers Leongatha and Warragul will do battle at the Wonthaggi Turf.

Leongatha didn’t make enough runs in the season opener and will be hoping that Thomas Wyatt, Jason Wilson and Gavin Britt can get amongst the runs.

Tim Wightman is a consistent GCL performer with ball and he will be supported by Alan Jenkins and Shane Dole.

Warragul was very disappointing with the bat at Hallora against Traralgon with Trevor Gardiner top scoring with 21.

Aaron Fawcett is in good form with the ball for the visiting team.

This will be a close one.
