Bullets shoot down Blue Devils

BASKETBALL

CBL GIPPSLAND

A colossal haul of 41 points from Churchill captain Jordan Canovan was not enough to overcome a barnstorming Bairnsdale Bullets on Saturday night in Country Basketball League Gippsland.

The Bullets shot to a seven-point lead at quarter-time and led at every change, but were forced to endure a tense final minute as the Blue Devils drew within a point.

With seven seconds on the clock Churchill was forced to foul, sending John Nutall to the free-throw line where he held his nerve to hand Bairnsdale a 91-88 win at home.

Andrew Savige led the way for the Bullets with 19 points with four players racking up double figure tallies.

In CBL Gippsland women’s action Churchill accounted for Bairnsdale 90-46 and Maffra 62-71, while Traralgon smashed the Eagles 77-57 on the back of a 34-point game from Jamilee Pearce.

Moe sits atop both CBL Gippsland ladders after five rounds.
