Luca Neveelk falls short

GIPPSLAND’S great hope for the richest race in greyhounds was eclipsed at Sandown on Friday.

Denison trained Luca Neveelk ran eighth in the $600,000 Melbourne Cup final following a series of collisions over the 515 metre journey.

The Gerry and Rose Kleeven trained greyhound was slow to start and tangled with Star Recall and Cosmic Wise early in the run.

Luca Neveelk collided with Above All approaching the second turn, on the second turn, several times in the back straight and again on the third turn.

Luca Neveelk was vetted following the event though reportedly no apparent injuries were found.

Jenny Hunt trained Dyna Villa took out the $420,000 first prize.
