Frame perfect eight ball

THE Latrobe Valley claimed the Eight Ball Country Cup in dramatic fashion in Orbost last week.

After trailing West Gippsland 3-1 in the grand final of the tournament, the Latrobe Valley number one side won three straight frames to emerge victorious 4-3.

Some 20 teams from across South East Gippsland battled it out, with the Latrobe Valley entering three teams.

At the end of the preliminary round robin LV2 was on top undefeated in group one, while LV1 won its section, dropping just one match to LV3 which finished second in the pool.

LV1 defeated LV2 in round two of the finals series to qualify for the final, after the former sent LV3 into the losers’ bracket where it fell to West Gippsland 4-3 in the deciding frame.

West Gippsland defeated LV 2, 4-2 to reach the final, where it fell just short.

Shane Vogt of LV1 was named player of the carnival, while with the following Latrobe Valley players were named in the all star team: Steve Halliday, Steve Gray, Alf Shingles, Col Young and Milo Fue.

The winning team consisted of Halliday (captain), Gray, Vogt, Pike, Tom Gill, Mick Stellini and Michael Green.
