GIPPSLAND Galaxy made women’s football history on Saturday by winning the division five east Victorian Women’s Football League in its debut season.
The Galaxy was far too good for Ajax in Saturday’s grand final at Dandenong and posted 7.9 (51) to 2.2 (14) to seal the flag.
Gippsland made the early running and breezed to a 4.2 (26) to nil lead at the first change to set the tone for the match.
A more even second term saw the Galaxy post 1.1 (7) while Ajax managed its first goal for the contest to trail by 27 at half-time.
Ajax continued to repel the Galaxy attack in the third term, restricting it to 1.3 (9), but could only managed 1.1 (7) at the other end to remain well behind at the final change.
Galaxy saw the game out safely to become 2015 women’s champion.
Rachel Drennan booted three goals for the Galaxy, while Sarah Jolly popped through two.
Patricia Chapman was named best on ground, followed by the Jollys Emily and Sarah.
