Traralgon runs train on Drouin

DEFENDING premier Traralgon made a glaring statement of intent by dismissing Drouin 108-69 and taking all 20 points from their round one West Gippsland Bowls division one clash.

Chris Le Lievre’s men displayed dominance across the rinks to scoop a clean sweep of competition points, and shot to the top of the ladder ahead of Warragul, which eked out a win over competition powerhouse Yallourn.

Windy conditions prevailed on a 15 second green which made it difficult to form close heads.

Le Lievere’s rink led by example to defeat Mark Atkinson 28-17.

Following suit Abe Roeder got up against John Leighton 29-20 while Ian Kirkup beat David Ashby 30-15.

Ian Smethurst continued his good form after winning the 60 plus singles on Friday with a close tussle against Mat Ferrari.

Despite resistance from the Drouin squad, Ferrari’s men emerged victorious 21-17.

Traralgon RSL and Morwell Club also made winning starts to their respective campaigns.
