Latrobe City Energy will introduce an All Abilities basketball team in 2016, with the aim to compete against other associations throughout the south-east and metropolitan region.
With a growing list of representative teams already competing within the Melbourne United VJBL and BigV competitions, Energy president Trevor Henry said it was time to create a side.
“As we are an inclusive organisation, it is a natural progression for the Association to embrace the wider community in Gippsland,” Henry said.
“We are very much looking forward to providing quality coaching and playing opportunities for athletes with disabilities who wish to compete and continue to develop their basketball skills.
“There are many players in this region with disabilities that do not participate in mainstream sport and we see a growing need for the community to back and support the growth of athletes both on and off the court.”
Latrobe City Energy in conjunction with the Basketball Victoria Country, Basketball Victoria, GippSport, and Special Olympics Victoria held an All Abilities come and try day at Latrobe Leisure Traralgon on 29 November.
