Bulls gain Polish magic

HOCKEY

WHEN it comes to the travel stakes the latest Gippsland Bulls Hockey Club recruit has everyone beat.

Players come from far and wide across the region to bolster the Bulls in Hockey Victoria’s metropolitan competition, but Maciej Janiszewski is the most decorated journeyman on the roster.

Hailing from Poland, Janiszewski has played hockey in more than seven countries including Spain, Croatia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria and now Australia.

The high point of his hockey career was selection in the Polish national side, during which time he represented his country in the European Championship, the under 21 world cup and the Champions Challenge in Argentina.

He was also a member of the side that won the 2009 Hockey Champions Challenge II.

Highlights from his club hockey career include winning the Polish Championship and the under 21s Eurohockey Indoor championship with his club, Pomorzanin Toru.

Since his arrival Janiszewski has immediately established himself as one of the Bulls’ key players this season.

His poise on the ball has set up much of the Bulls’ attacking play and his ability to create something from nothing netted the midfielder two goals in his Bulls debut.

In addition to his contributions on the field, Janiszewski is co-coaching the under 18s.

“His contribution to the development of these younger Bulls will have a lasting impact on the club’s talent into the future,” a club spokesperson said.
