Cup win in Burke’s backyard

HAZELWOOD North hobby trainer Gavin Burke was a warmly received winner of Saturday night’s Traralgon Cup as both a local and rank outsider with Pantera Nera.

The former jockey scored a victory in his first greyhounds group final in the $67,000 final over 525 metres in 30.189 seconds with a $14 roughie.

A Glenview Park regular, Burke’s runner led from start to finish to hold off Blake Shillington duo Demon Bale and Eren Bale in the minor placings.

It was Pantera Nera’s 13th win from 28 starts.
