GIPPSLAND Power created shockwaves in the TAC Cup when it knocked off top side Geelong Falcons by 26 points at Morwell on Saturday.
The 11th-placed Power rose to the occasion in the Kempe Read the Play round, dedicated to mental health awareness, to cause a major upset and register its third win of the campaign.
It was slow going in the opening exchanges as neither side could manage a major in the first quarter, but the Power seized control in the second to lead by one straight kick at half-time.
A see-sawing third term went narrowly in the Power’s favour, with seven points the difference at the final change, before the host ran the game out strong to claim the spoils.
Gippsland denied the Falcons a single goal in the fourth, restricting the competition leader to just three minor scores, while adding 3.4 (22) in a whirlwind finish.
The final score was Gippsland Power 8.12 (60) defeated Geelong Falcons 3.16 (34).
Austin Hodge, Nathan Voss and Trent Armour scored two goals each for the Power, while Campbell Mackenzie received the votes for best on ground.
