Grima’s golden touch seals big win

There was plenty of action in the Central Gippsland Cricket Association’s second grade on Saturday with Mirboo North securing a huge win over Rawson.

The Tigers knocked up a massive total of 7/238 at Rawson, with skipper Pete Grima smacking an unbeaten 73 against his old side.

Grima then took 3/14 as the Kookaburras collapsed to 86 all out.

Thorpdale v Latrobe

Latrobe struggled to post a competitive total against Thorpdale as brothers Travis (2/23) and Shannon Pickering (2/13) bowled well.

The Blues looked in trouble early at 3/16 but Trent Gibson (60 not out) and Shannon (58 not out) put on a 134 run stand to cruise past the Sharks’ 8/118.

Willow Grove v Trafalgar

Brody Hams struck 110 for Willow Grove against Trafalgar as the Wolves posted 6/192.

Christian Burgess picked up the bulk of the wickets with 5/43, but the damage had already been done.

The young Ships showed great fighting spirit to get close to the total and closed at 9/185, only eight runs shy of victory.

Rhain Howarth-Ross (75) and John Assmussen (44) were the stand-outs for Trafalgar.

Nathan Perkins hampered their middle order efforts by taking 5/45.

Morwell v Newborough Bulldogs

Almost all batsmen got starts for Morwell against Newborough, but nobody went on to get a big score as the Tigers finished up with 9/211.

Royce Colgrave picked up 4/42 to restrict the total, but Newborough never really got going in the chase and were all out for 98.

Ben Doran played well for his 36 but Rob Semmler ripped through the Bulldogs with 6/24 to secure the points for the Tigers.

Moe v Jeeralang-Boolarra

Moe batted first against Jeeralang-Boolarra and after being in early trouble at 3/22 a 118 run partnership between Jason Sheatring (46) and Stace Puts (71) helped the Lions to 175.

Bradley King was the only bat to dig in for the Panthers with 39, as Lachlan Bauman and Ryan Sim both took three wickets to dismiss the visitors for 123.
