Sharks skipper inspires Kookaburra Cup win

Traralgon and District Cricket Club Ex Students won the Gippsland Kookaburra Cup for a record fifth time on Sunday.

Playing Rosedale-Kilmany at Rosedale, the Sharks won the Twenty20 match by four wickets with 2.5 overs to spare.

Batting first, Rosedale-Kilmany was held to 9/102 with Michael Walters scoring 44 and Lee Stockdale taking 4/5.

Ex Students were cruising to victory, scoring well over half the runs required before the first wicket fell.

Late wickets made the match appear closer than it was.

Stockdale completed a man of the match performance, scoring 57.

Ex Students‘ win earnt them the right to represent Gippsland in next season’s statewide Big Bash.

This season Gippsland is represented by Glengarry in the competition, which starts its campaign next weekend with a first round match against Cranbourne.
