No mercy for North Gippsland in fourth round

With only four teams in the senior competition, round four of Victorian Regional Netball League was a replay of round two.

While it was a fortnight since the sides matched up, the final results were much the same.

Gippsland crushed North Gippsland and Mid Gippsland knocked over Sale.

It was the Gippsland versus North game that everyone had come to see.

Just nine goals separated the sides at their previous meeting and the gathered crowd was hoping to see a boil over.

Unfortunately all they could do was hope, as North Gippsland forgot to turn up.

Poor passing and a three-goal third quarter saw them down by 16 heading into the final period.

Gippsland League gelled together superbly, particularly in the mid court, with the combinations of the talented Allison twins, Christie Edwards and Stacey O’Brien working perfectly.

Taylin Gourley also combined strongly with the next big thing in netball, Daisy Hill.

North’s attackers were unable to answer the challenges put to them by Gippsland’s defensive end. It was a stunning match from Gippsland who gave no consideration to the feelings of their opposition, winning 62-28.

Mid Gippsland v Sale

The results also remained the same as round two in the Mid Gippsland versus Sale encounter.

Mid was way too strong for the depleted Sale Netball Association team.

Sale recruited the services of the talented Casey Guttridge to fill the void in the midcourt.

Yet it was not a good game for Sale, with the side going down to Mid Gippsland 65-27.

Tomorrow in Churchill the second last round of seniors games will be played before the finals get underway.

Under 17s hit their final round tomorrow with the post season firing up Friday week.

In the 17s Gippsland currently tops the table, and along with Pakenham have locked in a finals spot. East and North Gippsland sit third and fourth respectively.

If Sale wants to make the finals it will need to beat Pakenham by a healthy margin and hope either East or North hand the other a flogging. Mid Gippsland is yet to register a win.
