Round four review

Falcons and Newborough/Yallourn fought it out in an exciting match between the top two teams which resulted in a win to Falcons, 1-0.

The match went end-to-end for 85 minutes with neither team allowed a break.

It was a tense game with the referee handing out five yellow cards as players went in with hard tackles.

At 83 minutes Falcons’ Jesse Kennedy was upended and awarded a free kick which was taken by brother Jordan.

Jesse Kennedy took a corner shot into the box and found defender Isaac Abas, who deftly slotted the ball past Damien Gilbert to give Falcons the win and top spot on the ladder.

Monash v Trafalgar

Brayden Paulett led Monash to a 3-0 victory over Trafalgar in round four.

His brace at 31 and 43 minutes secured Monash a 2-0 lead going into half time.

Trafalgar fought hard but were unable to dent the reliable Monash defence.

It was a second half struggle and both sides had chances but Monash were able to secure their third goal through Jonathon Cook to give the Wolves a 3-0 victory.

The win gives Monash fourth position on the table after three successive victories.

East Gippsland v Sale

A goal by Kristian Phillips just before half time was enough for Sale to grab a hard fought 1-0 victory over East Gippsland.

The Swans struggled against a determined East Gippsland squad and constant turnovers didn’t suit their style of play.

The Swans have been prolific scorers throughout their last three games but that came to a halt at the hands of East Gippsland.

Sale, with three successive wins, sit in third spot on the table on goal difference from Monash.

Moe v Olympians

Moe notched another win at the weekend and took the points over Olympians, 2-0.

Riley Winkel-Atkinson put Moe in front with a belter at the seven-minute mark.

Moe lifted in the second half with Luke Bathgate scoring their second on the hour.

Olympians threw everything at the Moe defence but the Red Devils held strong to run out winners.

Churchill v Fortuna

Churchill and Fortuna played last night for the Anzac Day Cup. See next week’s Express for results.

Round five preview

Fortuna and Newborough/Yallourn will face off in the game of the round this weekend.

Newborough/Yallourn have struggled against Fortuna over the years but have won the last four games.

Fortuna have emerged a strong side this year after a tumultuous 2017 and are capable of winning this weekend.

Sale v Traralgon City

Traralgon City returns after the bye this week and will battle a high-riding Swans outfit.

Traralgon City have lost two close games and drawn one.

Sale, with three victories so far, will be full of confidence but just scraped in against East Gippsland last weekend.

Sale have lost their last three to Traralgon in league matches which gives the Roosters a vital edge.

Monash v East Gippsland

Monash have won their last three and look on track to add another three points to their tally when they take on East Gippsland this weekend.

The Eagles pushed Sale last weekend to lose by a goal while Monash did a job on Trafalgar and held them scoreless.

This could be a walk in the park for Monash who have beaten the East in the last six meetings.

Olympians v Trafalgar

Olympians and Trafalgar will face off this weekend at HP Reserve.

Olympians went down to Moe without scoring last week but are not without a chance this weekend.

Olympians have won four of the six played and the other two were drawn.

Churchill v Moe

With only three days to recover from their Anzac Day clash with Fortuna, Churchill will face Moe on Saturday.

The Red Devils have won two of the four matches so far and will be looking to add to the tally.

It was one win apiece last season but results over the last three seasons have been fairly even.

Churchill are yet to set the season ablaze and will need to put in a big effort to overcome Moe.
