Pink Ribbon round supports breast cancer

Morwell Football Netball Club will be taking full advantage of their newly constructed netball facilities next weekend when they host Pink Ribbon Round.

The club will raise much-needed funds for the Breast Cancer Network.

Round six of the Gippsland League between Moe and Morwell will be played at Morwell Recreation Reserve.

The club will donate $10 for every A grade netball and senior football goal scored on the day to the Breast Cancer Network.

Netballers will show support for the cause by wearing pink bibs and playing with a pink ball while footballers will take to the ground in pink socks.

Throughout the day, raffles and other fundraising activities will be run and a free high tea will be served to mothers in the clubrooms during the senior game.

For Morwell netball coordinator Claire Allison and sister Rachel, the fundraiser is part of a personal mission to support the cause after their own mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.

Claire tipped the highlight of the day would be the eagerly anticipated mother-daughter match, scheduled to follow the A grade game.

She said the inaugural mother-daughter match proved a hit last year when it formed part of the day’s fundraising efforts for Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision.

“The mothers somehow managed to pull off a thrilling one-point victory against their talented daughters in a heart-stopper match,” Allison said.

“Although, they may have been assisted by a larger than usual number of players taking to the court in the dying minutes of the game, so we may have to review rules for the upcoming face-off.”
