Latrobe Valley Baseball Association teams marked Mother’s Day by adding a touch of pink to their uniforms for Mother’s Day in a round which featured a number of close matches.
Sale Rangers controlled the batter’s box in their A grade match against the Churchill Braves, winning 10-6.
Churchill Braves Richard Humphries made his mark on the match early, hitting a single on a 3-1 count and scoring a run.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the second innings, when Kade Eicke singled on a 2-2 count and scored a run that things evened up.
Sale then took off with their lead as Brad Taylor singled, scoring two runs and Rohan Hector doubled, scoring one run.
The Braves’ Tim Bellerby threw a wild pitch which allowed Sale to score across the plate and Lachlan Wriggleworth grounded out, scoring one run.
In the sixth inning, Churchill scored three runs from a double from Brad Jones.
Wriggleworth proved the dominant factor as he approached the pitcher’s mound for Sale, pitching seven innings while striking out three and allowing six runs.
For Churchill, Tim Bellerby took to the hill, allowing six runs and striking out two over two innings, before Richard Humphies relieved him, allowing four runs in the third inning.
Sale Rangers finished with 14 hits in the game, with multiple hits from Kade Eicke, Brad Bronts, Brad Taylor and Justin Johnston.
Sale Ranger’s Tim Hector led with two stolen bases, as Sale ran through the diamond stealing eight bases.
Richard Humphies was Churchill’s best bat with 2-4.
South Gippsland v Moe/Newborough
Moe/Newborough Dodgers were too strong for South Gippsland Miners, clinching a 12-8 victory on Sunday.
The Miners fell behind early and struggled to get back in the match.
Chris Wendt got the Dodgers started with a single in the first inning but it was the second when Moe/Newborough started to take control of the game.
The Dodgers’ Tim Wilson scored from a fielder’s choice, while Wendt, Nathan Robinson and two walks from Benn Zomer and Mat Luke helped apply pressure.
South Gippsland kept themselves in the match, running and stealing seven bases in the game.
But it was not enough, as the Dodgers also managed to steal seven bases, with Luke leading the way with two.
South Gippsland looked like they were coming back with a total of 14 hits in the game.
But Moe/ Newborough took charge with a total of 22 hits on their way to victory.
South Gippsland’s Aidan Rusden scored three runs off an RBI single in the third innings.
The Miners’ Tim Katz pitched for the first four innings allowing 10 runs and striking out three with Stewart Mathieson and Mitchell Bowen coming in to relieve him.
The Dodger’s Ben Zomer took control on the hill, allowing five runs and striking out four.
B grade
Traralgon recorded a massive 26-6 victory against Morwell, getting off to a flying start with five runs in the first inning before adding 15 in the second.
The Cougars could only watch the game slip through their fingers as the Redsox piled on the pain.
Morwell managed to add three runs in the second inning and a further three in the third, but it was not enough to swing the match.
Sale Rangers recorded a narrow win against Churchill Braves at home, with a 11-10 victory.
The Rangers took control of the match when they scored 10 all out at the bottom of the fifth inning.
Churchill totalled 13 hits for the game.
