NORTH GIPPSLAND
An indomitable Rosedale kept Glengarry to just a single goal to three-quarter-time on their way to recording a 72-point win in North Gippsland Football League action on Saturday, 14.18 (102) to 4.6 (30).
The Magpies were listless in the opener and managed one goal and two behinds to sit 14 points in the red at the first break.
Things only got worse in the second and third quarters for the home side as they added a solitary behind to the scoreboard while Rosedale stacked on 10 to lead by 67 points at three-quarter-time.
The only saving grace for Glengarry came in the form of four last-ditch goals in the final term but the damage was well and truly done.
Matt Royal and Isaac Love scored three goals each for the Blues in the win while Kaleb Watson, Brad Scott and Richard Ingrouille scored two apiece.
For Glengarry, Nathan Larkin was the only multiple goal scorer with two.
Woodside v Yarram
A Griffin Underwood-led Yarram outfit have charged to their eighth consecutive win to remain undefeated atop the North Gippsland league ladder on Saturday with a comfortable win over Woodside on the road, 17.13 (115) to 11.8 (74).
Underwood’s four goals were just reward for the hard-working Demons’ engine room and coach Matt Scholz had nothing but praise for the playing group.
“With the challenge that was handed to us, especially in the midfield, and the way we adapted and were able to get on top of them at the end … was really good,” Scholz said.
“Chris Bruns played sensationally and Dirk Mulholland was brilliant in the ruck.
“At times Ryan Foat got on top of him but he knuckled down and got the win for us, and around the ground he was really good.”
Scholz injured his ankle in the win and will undergo scans to determine whether he will play against Cowwarr in round nine.
Cowwarr v Churchill
Churchill have denied the Saints their maiden win of season 2018 with a come-from-behind victory on the road on Saturday, 13.12 (90) to 10.11 (71).
The Saints looked the part in the opening stages of the game and kept Churchill to just a single goal.
The lead stood at 17 points at quarter-time but could have been considerably larger if not for some wayward kicking at goal which had Cowwarr with three goals from 10 scoring shots.
The Cougars emerged resolute in the second quarter and pinned the deficit back to three points at half-time.
The Saints went into the final break three points up but were quashed in the last quarter to lose out by 19 points at the final siren.
Leigh Mcdonald led the way for Churchill and scored three goals for the day while Ben Skinner, Blake Slater and Nick Celima each snared two.
The Cougars move into second spot on the North Gippsland league ladder with the win, ahead of TTU, while Cowwarr languishes at the bottom.
Sale City v Gormandale
After securing a win in round seven, Gormandale have come hurtling back down to earth at the hands of defending premiers Sale City in round eight, 13.11 (89) to 7.8 (50).
The Bulldogs pulled no punches on home turf and tore away with a three-goal-to-none opening quarter to lead by 18 points at the first break.
The margin was extended to 24 at half-time and 32 at three-quarter-time to set Sale City up with win number five for the season.
Stuart Buckley proved the difference for the Bulldogs and bagged five goals to take his season tally to 28 and move four goals clear on top of the league leading goal kicker board while Josh Tollner and playing-coach Jacob Schuback chimed in with two goals each.
TTU v Heyfield
Heyfield delivered the upset of round eight in the North Gippsland Football League on Saturday with victory of Traralgon Tyers United, 9.7 (61) to 6.11 (47).
A slow first term had the home side goalless at quarter-time with Heyfield’s one goal enough to give them a six-point lead.
Both sides kicked into gear in the second and four goals to one in favour of the Roos helped them extend the margin to seven points.
A three-point advantage at the last break was blown open in the last quarter and the Roos teamed home to record a 14-point win.
Matt Bedggood and Kodie Woodland were key for Heyfield in the win and kicked two goals each while singles went to Brad Page, James Beha, Mark Johnston, Nicholas Ierardi and Thomas Hall.
Heyfield move a game clear in seventh spot on the ladder after the win, while TTU dropped to third behind Churchill.
